Martinsville: The Race Traffic From Hell

In case you missed it, I got to experience Martinsville this past weekend. I would have posted about it sooner, but my parents were in town for the race and my birthday (which was yesterday.) The trip up to Martinsville (or Ridgeway more accurately) from Charlotte went pretty quickly until we actually were within a few miles of the track. We should have left much much earlier. As soon as we got into Virginia on highway 220 things started backing up like crazy. It took over an hour for us to just go barely a mile before we finally called it quits and pulled off into a parking area. Sure we probably could have parked for free somewhere closer, but it wasn’t worth the wait.

We had to walk about a mile to the track, but we probably needed the exercise anyway. We entered the racetrack just as they were giving the command to start the engines. It was fine, of course, because my dad probably just would have complained about the “hype” anyway. We were in the Sprint Grandstand all the way up at the top so we got up there just in time to see the green flag.
